Beautiful Bed-head

Recently Kate has started taking 3 hour long morning naps. I really hope she keeps it up! She used to only nap for 30 minutes at a time. Could this be the beginning of a glorious new routine?

She wakes up so happy!

6 Month Saudades

Today Kate is six months old. Half a year. I am experiencing a little bit of shock and also some "saudades". Saudades is a Portuguese word for which there isn't an adequate English translation. I don't really speak Portuguese, but my understanding is that it is a sense of missing someone, with feelings of nostalgia or longing. I think that describes how I am feeling today. What happened to my little Baby Kate? I feel like I just gave birth to her!

Even though I am longing to have my squishy newborn girl back, I am also loving this chunkier version of Baby Kate. The past six months have been an amazing journey. We are so blessed to have this adorable little girl in our lives. Kate has the cutest chuckle, and she finds the world to be an absolutely hilarious place. She is a very happy baby, and is usually content wherever we are and whatever we're doing. She loves splashing in the bath, riding in her ergo, petting Deacon, sucking on her toes, talking, blowing spit bubbles, and just hanging out with the family. She brings so much wonder and joy into my life. I love her more than I can describe. I am just in awe of how much she has grown in such a short time.

Kate's New Trick

Today Kate rolled over!

She has been trying to roll from back to belly for a little while unsuccessfully, and has never shown much interest in rolling from belly to back. She is a pretty relaxed baby and is often content to just stay where she is. So this morning I put her down on her belly to play and noticed that she was trying to roll over, so I helped her out by positioning her arm for her. She was able to roll and seemed quite pleased with herself, so I put her on her belly again and she tried again, but was unsuccessful and so I helped her. The third time I put her on her belly she seemed pretty determined, and was able to do it all by herself. Kate is on her way to mobility! I just love all these little milestones in her life, they bring me so much joy.

Pretzel Baby

Recently Kate has been practicing her baby yoga, and it is paying off. The other day while taking a bath she discovered how to get her feet into her mouth. She has been obsessed with her feet for a while now, so this was very exciting for her. Toes are pretty tasty.
